Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was sworn in as the 23rd Governor of Kerala on January 2, 2025. Born on April 23, 1954, in Panaji, Goa, he is the son of Late Shri Vishwanath Arlekar and Late Smt. Tilomattama Arlekar.

He completed his matriculation at St. Joseph’s Institute, Vasco da Gama, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from MES College, Vasco da Gama. His early interest in public service grew through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later through the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he became an active member in 1989 and served as the State President of BJP Goa for four years.

His commitment to democratic ideals was evident during the Emergency (1975–1977), when he and his father were imprisoned for defending democracy.

As a Member of the Goa Legislative Assembly (2002–2007), Shri Arlekar actively promoted social development and environmental protection. From 2012 to 2017, he served as the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, pioneering India’s first paperless Assembly system. He later served as Minister for Forest & Environment and Panchayati Raj in Goa.

In July 2021, he became the 21st Governor of Himachal Pradesh and later the 30th Governor of Bihar in February 2023, before assuming office as Governor of Kerala in 2025.

Shri Arlekar is married to Smt. Anagha Arlekar, and they are blessed with two children — a daughter, Smt. Aditi Kulkarni, and a son, Shri Amogh Arlekar.
