The College of Applied Science Malampuzha was established in August 2008 by the Institue of Human Resource Development (IHRD). The College is affiliated to the University of Calicut and offers Four Year Under Graduate Honours Degree programmes in B. B. A. (finance), B. Com. (Computer Application), B. Sc. Computer Science and B. Sc. Electronics under the University. The B.Sc., B. Com. and B.B.A. programmes are being conducted in the semester system with the most recent syllabus and curriculum, modified from time to time by the University of Calicut.

Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) is an autonomous educational institution established by the Government of Kerala in 1987. It is dedicated to the scientific advancement, technological progress and economic growth of the country through human resources development. It endeavours to provide education and training of consistently high standard through innovative and versatile programmes suitable for the current and emerging needs of the community.

The present location of the College is at Kallepully, just seven kilometers from Palakkad Junction Railway Station, four kilometers from Palakkad Town Railway Station and four kilometers from KSRTC Bus Station, Palakkad. Inauguration of the ground floor of the new building at Chemmencadu near the Public Health Centre of Marutha Road Grama Panchayath was held on 3rd June 2019 by Mr. V. S. Achuthanandan, the former Chief Minister of Kerala. The construction of the first floor of the new building for the College is in the final phases, and the college is expected to be shifted to the new campus from the academic year 2024-25.
